Rose Colombosian and Colombo Yogurt
In 1929 the Armenian immigrants Sarkis and Rose Colombosian began selling the matsun (yogurt) they made themselves in the United States. In the town of Andover, Massachusetts, they founded the dairy plant Colombo and Sons. According to the source, this was the first commercial production of yogurt in America, and it was made by traditional Armenian methods handed down from generation to generation.
At first the product was unfamiliar to Americans, but later it became one of the most popular healthy foods, and for decades the Colombo brand led the market.
