The Ghazarosian sisters, Belmont, 1949

The Ghazarosian sisters from Kharberd (Harput) survived the Genocide and met again many years later. The photograph was taken in 1949 in Belmont (Massachusetts).

In the centre sits the nun Jenny d’Arc (born Mariam) from Marseille (France). Also in the photograph are Takouhi Avakian from Providence (Rhode Island) and Varter Bagdikian from Belmont (Massachusetts).

The women at her sides wear dark dresses; the nun wears a white head covering, a cross on her chest, and holds prayer beads.
