An Armenian family from Bazmashen in the USA, 1910
The photograph was taken in 1910 in the United States of America. It shows an Armenian family who had emigrated from the village of Bazmashen in Western Armenia. Bazmashen was in the province of Kharberd and was known for its hard-working and educated inhabitants.
There are 5 people in the picture: 2 seated men in suits and bowler hats, a little girl in a white dress between them, and behind them a young man and a woman in a large hat decorated with feathers.
This photograph bears witness to those Armenians who, even before the Genocide, left for the other side of the ocean in search of a safer future. It has been preserved thanks to the Craig Whalen collection.
