An Armenian Wedding in Singapore, 1910
This rare photograph shows an Armenian wedding in Singapore in 1910.
There are ten people in the picture. In the centre are the newlyweds: the bride in a white dress and veil with a large bouquet, and the groom in a dark suit, holding a hat and gloves. They are surrounded by family members and relatives; in front sit an elderly woman and an elderly man.
The photograph speaks not only of a family union but also of an Armenian community, thousands of kilometres from the homeland, and of the preservation of its identity.
