An Armenian Family in Boston, 1908
The photograph shows an Armenian family in the city of Boston, United States. It was taken in 1908.
There are seven people in the picture: a seated man and woman, and around them three girls, a small child and a young man. The men wear suits, the woman and the girls dark dresses, some of them trimmed with light-coloured braid.
From the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many Armenians emigrated to the United States. There they founded new communities and built churches, schools and cultural centres. The Boston community became one of the most important Armenian communities in America.
