The monument to Grigor Narekatsi in the Vatican

A monument to Grigor Narekatsi, a giant of Armenian spiritual thought, stands in the Vatican. It was unveiled in 2018. The sculptor is Davit Yerevantsi, and the architect is Mikayel Asratyan.

The metal statue shows Narekatsi in a hooded cloak, humble and contemplative. Leaves and fruit are carved near his hands, and an open book lies at the base. The statue stands in a garden next to a brick wall.

The monument recalls that for centuries the Armenian people have spoken to the whole world through their faith, thought and culture.
