Cover of Bakikhanov’s book Gulistan-i Iram

The photograph shows the cover of a modern edition of Abbasgulu Agha Bakikhanov’s book Gulistan-i Iram, with the author’s name and the title in Azerbaijani.

According to the author of the source, in the original Bakikhanov writes that Tamerlane resettled 50,000 Turkic families (about 250,000 people) from Syria, Iraq and Turkey in Karabakh, Yerevan and Gandzak (Ganja), and that these lands were originally inhabited by Armenians. According to the same source, Ziya Buniyatov removed these passages when translating the book into Russian.

The source also states that in 1604 Shah Abbas forcibly deported 350,000 Armenians into the depths of Persia, and that Griboyedov merely helped them return to their lands under the terms of the Treaty of Turkmenchay.
