“We Are Our Mountains” and sculptor Sargis Baghdasaryan
According to the source, the photograph shows sculptor Sargis Baghdasaryan, the author of the monument “We Are Our Mountains.” In the foreground an elderly man with white hair and beard, in a light-coloured jacket, sits on the grass; beside him stands a woman in a dress and sunglasses, and the monument is visible behind them.
This work, erected in Stepanakert and popularly known as “Grandpa and Grandma,” embodies the blood bond between the land of Artsakh and the Armenian people. The sculpture depicts an elderly couple in traditional costume standing shoulder to shoulder, without a pedestal, as if emerging from the rock itself.
