Horse-shaped tombstone in Northern Artsakh
This horse-shaped tombstone was found in Northern Artsakh and dates from the 19th century. It is covered with carved crosses and sculpted images of people. A half-effaced inscription survives on the tombstone, beginning: “Beneath this tombstone rest...”
The photograph shows the saddle and bridle carved on the horse’s body, relief images on its side and Armenian letters on the neck. Other gravestones and grassy ground surround it.
