Panorama of Nor Bayazet, 1930
The photograph shows a panorama of the town of Nor Bayazet (Gavar) in 1930. The town lies in the Gegharkunik province, near Lake Sevan.
The town was founded in the 19th century, when Armenians from the town of Bayazet (Doğubayazıt) in Western Armenia moved to this area. They named the new settlement Nor Bayazet in memory of their former homeland. Over time the town became one of the important settlements of the region.
The photograph was taken from a hillside. Houses with yards enclosed by low walls and several larger two-storey buildings are visible, with mountains in the distance.
