The Garni Temple during Restoration
The photograph was taken by Nemrut Baghdasaryan, the founder of Armenian photojournalism, most likely in the mid-1960s. The restoration of the Garni temple was led by the architect Alexander Sainyan, author of a number of scholarly works on Garni and Geghard.
The photograph shows the Garni temple during its reconstruction, surrounded by scaffolding, with a tall crane beside it. In the foreground are the remains of old stone walls, and mountains rise behind.
