Armenian lahmajun
Armenian lahmajun has been included in a list of tasty dishes of various world cuisines: the New York–based travel publication “Roads and Kingdoms” placed it among the ten tastiest dishes of Jordan. In Amman's Armenian quarter, Jabal al-Ashrafieh, a small bakery near the Armenian church offers its guests only one dish: lahmajun.
It is often called “Armenian pizza”. It is made of a mixture of minced lamb, tomato, onion and pepper spread on thin dough. According to historical sources, lahmajun reached Amman, the capital of Jordan, with Armenians who escaped from the Ottoman Empire and found refuge there during the years of the 1915 genocide.
In the photograph, a lahmajun cut into slices lies on a plate on a cloth on a wooden table, topped with two lemon pieces, with a lemon, a spatula and tomatoes beside it.
