Gevork and Gohar Vartanian

The photograph shows Gevork and Gohar Vartanian, legends of Soviet intelligence, who served in various countries of the world for more than four decades. Most of their missions remain secret to this day.

In 1943, during the Tehran Conference, the Vartanians took part in uncovering a plot prepared by Nazi special services to kill the leaders of the USSR, Great Britain and the United States. The young but experienced Gevork worked on exposing German agents, with Gohar at his side.

In this studio portrait the woman sits in a white dress, and the man is behind her in a dark suit and tie.
