Street scene in Karin (Erzurum), engraving
The engraving “Street Scene in Erzurum” by Charles Barbant was published in 1882 in Alfred Rambaud’s book “A Popular History of Russia: From the Earliest Times to 1880”. Karin (Erzurum) is one of the oldest cities of the Armenian Highlands.
The engraving shows a two-storey house with a stone ground floor and a projecting wooden upper floor. A minaret, a dome and mountains appear in the distance. In the street are people, a dog and a loaded pack animal. Below is an inscription in Russian naming the author, the book and the year 1882.
