A street in Van in 1900 and in 2014

This image combines two photographs of the city of Van in Western Armenia. The upper one was taken in 1900 and shows one of the streets of Van when the city was still a major Armenian centre. The lower one was taken in 2014 at the same place.

The upper photograph shows a paved street with plastered houses and a building with wooden balconies; several passers-by can be seen, and the rock rises behind. In the lower photograph only the paved road, grass-covered ground and the ruins of the old city remain in front of the rock.
