St. Gregory Church in Aleppo, 1936
The Armenian Church of St. Gregory in Aleppo, 1936.
According to the source, Syria became home to about 80 000 Armenians, many of them descendants of victims of the tragic events of 1915. Most of Syria’s Armenians live in Aleppo, where districts with a mostly Armenian population have formed. The second-largest Armenian community in Syria is in Damascus.
The photograph shows the stone church with a dome crowned by a cross. In front stand four men in suits, two of them wearing fezzes.
