Mount Ararat seen from Nakhijevan
View of Mount Ararat from Nakhijevan, which, according to the source, is temporarily occupied by Azerbaijan.
According to the source, in the interpretation of the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus (1st century), the Armenian place name Nakhjavan (Nakhijevan) means “the place of first landing” (of Noah’s Ark). He wrote that the town of Nakhijevan was built at the foot of the mountain on whose summit Noah’s Ark came to rest during the biblical Flood. Later the Turkic change of “j” to “ch” produced the forms Nakhichevan and Nakhchivan.
The photograph shows the snow-covered peaks of Greater and Lesser Ararat, with a tree-lined road in the foreground.
