Charents Arch (Arch of Ararat)

Charents Arch stands on the road to the village of Garni, near the village of Voghjaberd. The architect Rafael Israelyan dedicated the monument to the poet Yeghishe Charents, who loved and admired the beauty of Mount Ararat. The site was not chosen by chance: as one approaches the arch, the most beautiful view of the biblical Ararat gradually opens up. Charents Arch was one of the poet's favourite places, and he often came here in search of inspiration.

The double stone arch stands on the top of a hill, reached by small steps. Charents's famous lines about Mount Masis are carved on the outer arch. In the photograph, the snow-covered peaks of Ararat are visible through the opening of the inner arch.
