The Armenian Church of Saint Nicholas in Rome
The Church of Saint Nicholas in Rome was built in 1599 and by Roman standards is considered a new building. At the end of the 19th century Pope Leo XIII gave the church to the Armenians, and it soon became the centre of the Armenian community of Rome. In 1885 the Armenian College (Collegio Armeno) opened next to the church, where Armenian language, culture and literature are still taught today.
The photograph shows the stone façade of the church, with columns, wide steps and a wooden door in the centre. There is a Latin inscription on the façade. Multi-storey buildings stand on both sides.
