The Grain Market of Aintab
The photograph shows the grain market of the town of Aintab between 1906 and 1911. It was taken by the American missionary Stephen van Rensselaer Trowbridge.
In the foreground are a large heap of grain and stacked sacks. Men and children stand around, in long robes and sashes, many with cloth wrapped around their heads. Behind them are shops with awnings and a minaret.
According to the source, Aintab was known for its developed trade and crafts. The photograph has been preserved in the Douglas Kreri collection and the Project SAVE photograph archive.
