Armenian wedding in Adana, 1905
The photograph was taken in Adana in 1905. It shows a traditional Armenian wedding with a whole community taking part. Families, relatives and neighbours are gathered in the frame, with the bride and groom in the centre. At that time Armenians were an important part of the cultural and economic life of Adana.
A few years later Adana became the scene of mass killings, and then one of the tragic pages of the Armenian Genocide.
Many men, women and children stand in the street in front of stone houses. In the centre the bride can be seen in a white dress and veil.
