Pogroms against Armenians in Azerbaijan, 1988–1990
In November 1988 a new wave of violence and pogroms against Armenians began in Azerbaijan. The largest incidents took place in Kirovabad (Ganja), as well as in Shamakhi, Shamkhor (Shamkir) and Mingechaur (Mingachevir). At the same time the inhabitants of 50 Armenian villages near Northern Artsakh were also displaced. About 48,000 Armenians were expelled from Kirovabad.
The violence continued until January 1990, when the Baku pogroms took place.
