Star-shaped arches in St. James Cathedral, Jerusalem
One of the best-known examples of the six-pointed star used in architecture can be seen in a 12th-century Armenian church, St. James Cathedral in Jerusalem.
The photograph shows the inside of the cathedral's dome. Beneath the dome, intersecting arches form a six-pointed star. Many oil lamps hang from the dome and the arches, and a large chandelier can be seen below.
According to the source, these arches are not only an artistic element but also play an important structural role, supporting and strengthening the dome. This testifies to the high engineering thought of medieval Armenian architecture and the deliberate use of symbolic forms.
