Traditional Armenian women’s jewellery
The picture shows a piece of traditional Armenian women’s jewellery, made of metal and decorated with pendants and coloured stones. It has a long pin and a triangular plaque set with red and green stones, from which hang five long chains ending in crescent-shaped pendants. On both sides hang chains with small round discs.
Such jewellery was widely worn in different regions and had not only an aesthetic but also a symbolic meaning. It marked a woman’s social status and family belonging, and was often regarded as protective or as bringing good luck.
