A street in New Julfa
New Julfa is a historic Armenian quarter of Isfahan, founded in 1606 by order of Shah Abbas I. It became a flourishing centre of trade, where Armenian merchants played a key role in international commerce between Asia and Europe. The inhabitants of the quarter historically enjoyed considerable religious freedom.
The quarter is known for its architecture combining Armenian and Persian elements and for several historic Armenian churches, including the Vank Cathedral.
The photograph shows a street with people walking; on the right is a long brick wall decorated with arches and a bell tower with a clock and a pointed top.
