Holy Mother of God (Seven Wounds) Church, c. 1915
The Holy Mother of God Cathedral, known as Yot Verk (Seven Wounds), in Alexandropol (Gyumri), c. 1915. The church stands on the north side of Vardanants Square and was built in 1873–1884. The photograph shows its historical appearance before serious damage.
After the 1988 earthquake the building underwent considerable changes: the two damaged domes were replaced by a new one, and the old ones now stand in the churchyard.
A large crowd has gathered in front of the church, and some people are standing on the roofs; it is probably an important event or a church service.
