Armenian khachkar in Milan
The photograph shows a medieval Armenian khachkar, a unique example of Christian art. It is kept in Milan, in the San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore complex, which today serves as the city’s archaeological museum.
The khachkar stands on a metal base by a brick wall, with an information panel beside it. The cross and the plant and geometric ornaments are visible on it. On the right, a stone niche decorated with a cross, with a basin below, is set into the wall.
The khachkar shows that medieval Armenian culture also left its mark on the history of European art.
