General Andranik with his comrades-in-arms

A group photograph in which Andranik Ozanian sits in the centre in military uniform, beside two clergymen, surrounded by his fedayis and other figures of the Armenian national liberation movement.

Andranik Toros Ozanian (1865–1927) was one of the leaders of the Armenian national liberation movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and a national hero of the Armenian people. He is also known as Zoravar (General) Andranik; in 1918 he received the rank of major general. During the years of the First Republic he led the national liberation struggle and fought against the Ottoman army in Western Armenia. The men in the photograph also fought in the First World War and the Balkan Wars.

The photograph shows a large group of men, most in military dress, with cartridge belts and fur hats. In the middle row sit two hooded clergymen with crosses on their chests.
