The Chapel of Surb Astvatsatsin at Dzordzor
Dzordzor (also known as Dzordzor Monastery or the Chapel of Surb Astvatsatsin of Dzordzor) is an Armenian monastery of which only the 10th-century (according to other sources, 14th-century) Chapel of Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) survives. Together with the monasteries of Saint Thaddeus and Saint Stepanos, it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List as an outstanding example of Armenian architecture and decorative art. It stands in the Maku district of Iran, on the Zangmar River, near the village of Baron, in the former Artaz province of Greater Armenia.
The photograph shows a stone chapel with gabled roofs and a tall cylindrical drum, crowned by a pleated, umbrella-shaped dome and a cross.
