Tatev Monastery
Tatev Monastery is an Armenian monastic complex built in the late 9th and early 10th centuries in the Syunik Province of Armenia, 20 km from the town of Goris. For centuries it was the spiritual centre of Syunik. The monastery was founded in 906; its founder was Ashot Syuni.
The photograph shows a clergyman in a black robe and hood, sitting on stones and reading a book. Behind him are the monastery’s stone walls with arched niches and khachkars, and on the right a structure with a triangular pediment, 3 khachkars and carved inscriptions.
