Sanahin Monastery
Sanahin is a monument of Armenian architecture, a medieval monastery and one of the main medieval cultural centres of Northern Armenia. The church complex dates from the 10th–13th centuries. Sanahin had a scriptorium where books were copied, a library and an academy. The monastery stood in the village of Sanahin, which is now within the boundaries of the town of Alaverdi.
The upper photograph shows the façade of a stone building with arcaded entrances and a tall khachkar standing in front. The lower photograph shows the interior of an arched hall with columns, arches and a stone-slab floor.
