Repatriation of Lebanese Armenians, Beirut, 1946
The port of Beirut in 1946: the repatriation of Lebanese Armenians to Soviet Armenia. The first ship left Beirut in July 1946. After reaching Batumi, the repatriates travelled on to Armenia by train.
The photograph shows a dense crowd filling a long pier that stretches out into the water. A large ship is on the right, and buildings line the hillside in the distance.
