Arakhchi, a Traditional Cap
Arakhchi, 21st century.
In Western Armenia, caps came in different shapes, hemispherical and conical. They were made of felt or of knitted or woven wool and were usually worn together with a headscarf. They varied from place to place in material, style and the colours of their patterns. The white conical felt cap called koloz, with a pointed or rounded top, was widespread.
The photograph shows a low round cap with brightly coloured geometric patterns, a dark leather rim and 2 hanging cords.
