Armenian women of Khavadarig village, Mush plain
The photograph shows Armenian women of the village of Khavadarig (Dereçik) on the Mush plain. There are three people in the frame: two women in white headscarves and, between them, a girl wearing a cap. They stand in front of an arched stone doorway, dressed in striped jackets and aprons with embroidered patterns.
Their clothing, headscarves and decorated aprons are characteristic of the traditional culture of the region and reflect the community’s way of life and identity before the Genocide. This photograph has preserved the image and dignity of the Western Armenian woman from a world that today has been almost entirely destroyed.
