Armenian wedding in Adana, 1905
The photograph shows an Armenian wedding in the city of Adana in 1905. In the centre are the newlyweds: the bride in a white dress and veil and the groom in dark clothes. On both sides of them stand dozens of people in rows, family members, relatives and neighbours, in traditional dress. Many of the men wear fezzes. Behind them is a stone building.
This image has preserved the Armenian way of life of that time, its unity, and a moment of peaceful life that was soon to be shattered by historical tragedies.
