Ani: a ruined church

Ani lies on the high bank of one of the tributaries of the Akhurian River. The first mention of the city dates to the 5th century.

“The most beautiful, the most splendid, the richest...”: these are the words that can describe Ani, the pearl of the East.

The photograph shows one of Ani’s ruined stone churches. Part of a wall has collapsed and grass grows on the roof. Arches and narrow windows can be seen on the walls; around it is a green field.
