The Fabrikatorian brothers, industrialists of Mezre
The photograph shows five brothers: Mamas, Aharon, Tigran, Karapet and Samuel Fabrikatorian. Two are seated and three are standing. All wear fezzes and European suits. The photograph was taken between 1900 and 1915.
The Fabrikatorians were the most prominent industrialists of the town of Mezre (Elazığ) in Western Armenia and the owners of the largest silk factory in the region. Their products were known around the world and won gold medals at the international exhibitions in Paris and London.
In 1915, during the Armenian Genocide, the brothers were brutally killed, and their wealth and factory were confiscated.
