Armenian fedayi in Van

This archival photograph was taken in Van and shows Armenian fedayi, armed and with a determined bearing. Four men are seen in military clothing, with cartridge belts and rifles. Two wear head wraps, one wears a tall fur hat, and two hold binoculars.

The fedayi detachments were formed to protect communities, saving women, children and the elderly. This picture speaks of courage and dignity, when the path of resistance was chosen even in unequal conditions.
