Armed Armenian woman from Shatakh with her son, Van

The photograph was taken in Van. It shows an armed Armenian woman, born in Shatakh, with her young son. The woman wears a headscarf, crossed straps over her chest and a wide belt at her waist, and holds a rifle. The boy stands beside her in front of a stone wall.

Having lost her family, the woman was left with one aim: to save her child. Crossing the mountains and resisting her pursuers, she reached Van and joined the self-defence.
