Armenian children in Tigranakert, 1910
The photograph shows Armenian children in Tigranakert (Diyarbakır) in 1910. This is Western Armenia at a time when a vibrant Armenian community, with its families, schools and everyday life, still lived in the city.
The boys walk along a stony road beneath rocks and stone walls, with houses above them. Many of them wear wide sashes and waistcoats, some wear caps.
The photograph is a silent testimony to the world that existed before the Armenian Genocide.
