Four Generations of the Omartian Family of Caesarea
The photograph shows four generations of the Omartian family of Caesarea (Kayseri). It was taken by the photographer Sargis Minasyan around 1912.
There are 14 people in the picture: elderly people, adults, adolescents and children, including two infants. A man in a fez sits in the centre. Two small boys wear cartridge belts, which symbolised the readiness of the Armenian man of that time to defend his home and family. Some hold flowers, and branches are fastened behind them.
Caesarea was one of the most important centres of Armenian culture, education and crafts. The photograph has been preserved thanks to the Project Save archive.
