An Armenian Catholic Priest in Ankara, 1922
The photograph shows an Armenian Catholic priest near the Catholic church in Ankara. It was taken by Frédéric Gadmer in 1922 and is kept in the archive of the Albert Kahn Museum.
The bearded priest, wearing glasses, stands in light pink embroidered vestments and a cope, holding a golden cross. The walls behind him are covered with patterned carpets. The museum’s mark is in the lower left corner.
The careful splendour of the priest’s vestments recalls centuries-old church traditions.
