Fridtjof Nansen at an orphans' summer camp, 1925
The photograph was taken in 1925 at a summer camp near Alexandropol (Gyumri), set up on the initiative of the American Committee for Relief in the Near East. The humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Fridtjof Nansen is personally tasting the food prepared for the children.
Nansen stands in the centre in a light-coloured suit, surrounded by orphan children dressed in white. Near him are a woman and a man in a dark suit, and tents and a hill can be seen in the background.
