Aram Khachaturian with residents of Sisian, 1948

The photograph shows Aram Khachaturian (second from the right), the well-known Soviet and Armenian composer, conductor and teacher, with residents of Sisian in 1948. He is known for his ballets “Gayane” and “Spartacus” and for the “Sabre Dance”.

Seven people stand outdoors: six men and an elderly woman in a white headscarf. Khachaturian wears a hat and a light-coloured shirt, his arms folded across his chest. Trees stand behind the group.
