Composer David Tukhmanov

David Tukhmanov is a distinguished composer and the author of many popular Soviet songs. He was born on 20 July 1940 in Moscow. His father, Fyodor Davidovich, was an Armenian from the noble Tumanyan family, descendants of the Mamikonyan-Dsegh princes.

Tukhmanov’s song “Victory Day” is one of the finest songs about the Great Patriotic War, a symbol of heroism and courage. He has created hundreds of beloved melodies, among them “How Beautiful This World Is”, “My Address Is the Soviet Union”, “Words in Vain” and “My Homeland”. In recent years he has devoted himself to opera: his “Tsaritsa” was staged at the Helikon Opera, the Bolshoi and the Alexandrinsky theatres. According to the source, he now lives in Israel but continues to compose and give concerts.

The photograph shows a long-haired man in glasses and a striped jacket, his hand on his chin. The Russian caption below reads: “David Tukhmanov. The great hit-maker of the USSR”.
