The World Armenian Congress in New York, 1947
From 30 April to 4 May 1947 the World Armenian Congress was held in New York. The congress agreed that the main goal of the Armenian people was the restoration of Armenia’s borders according to the map drawn up by US President Woodrow Wilson.
On 22 November 1920 Wilson signed and sealed with the state seal the arbitral award defining the border between Turkey and Armenia. It provided for the inclusion of large territories of eastern Anatolia in Armenia (“Wilsonian Armenia”), but it was never implemented.
The photograph shows a large hall with hundreds of people seated around tables. On the wall is an Armenian slogan which, according to the source, calls to “turn Wilson’s project into reality”.
