Armenian orphans from Caesarea in Syria, 1920
The photograph shows Armenian children deported from Caesarea (Kayseri) who had lost their families as a result of the Armenian Genocide. In 1920 they reached Syria and were taken into an orphanage.
Dozens of children of different ages stand under the trees: girls in white headscarves on the left and boys in caps on the right. In front are 4 little girls in simple dresses.
These children became a symbol of the generation that survived the Genocide and a testimony to the Armenian people’s will to survive.
