South entrance of Saint Gevorg Church in Lor

Saint Gevorg Church stands in the village of Lor in Syunik Province and was built in 1666.

The church’s south entrance is the work of 17th-century masters. The ornament framing the doorway combines Christian symbols with traditional Armenian patterns, and the whole composition is symmetrical. The local people carefully look after this place.

In the photograph the arched entrance is framed with interlaced and twisted carved ornament. Above the door is an inscription with the date 1666. The wooden door bears a cross, and the wall is built of rough stone.
