An Armenian bearing tribute, Persepolis relief
The image shows an Armenian bringing tribute to the Achaemenid king. The relief is located in Persepolis and dates from the 6th–5th centuries BC, as a representation of the peoples of the empire.
Carved in the stone is a bearded man with curly hair and a cap on his head. He holds with both hands a vessel whose two handles are shaped like winged animals.
This scene bears witness to Armenia's participation and recognised position in the ancient Eastern world.
