Armenian orphan children with their bread ration
The photograph shows Armenian orphan children holding their daily bread ration. In a letter written on 13 January 1926, Karen Jeppe reports that hot food was provided daily to the children in the large Rami camp.
The children stand in a single row on bare ground. Behind them are a wooden building hung with long strips and a house with white walls; in the background a woman holds a child.
This image bears witness to humanity at a time when help was literally the line between life and death.
